- Flying Eagle Cents were produced by the U.S. Mint for general circulation starting in 1857. The 1856 was struck in Proof Only.
- This design was our first small cent, going from the large to a smaller planchet.
- The design only lasted 3 years, until the coin was changed to Miss Liberty wearing an Indian Head dress, known today as the Indian Head Cents.
